Triumph Motorcycles may expand its lineup with the introduction of a Thruxton 400. Recent sightings of the bike undergoing testing in India suggest that the motorcycle is nearing its production phase. An anticipated launch could come as soon as the second half of 2025.
The Thruxton 400 draws inspiration from the iconic café racers of the 1960s, featuring a distinctive front fairing with an integrated apron and windscreen. This design element not only enhances its vintage appeal but also improves aerodynamics. The motorcycle showcases a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, a floating tail section with a ribbed single-piece seat, and a prominent grab rail. The low-set clip-on handlebars and slightly rear-set foot pegs provide a sporty and engaged riding posture, reminiscent of its larger sibling, the Thruxton 1200.
Engine and Features
We expect the new Thruxton to house the same 398cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine found in the Speed 400. This engine delivers 39.5 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 37.5 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. However, Triumph and its manufacturing partner, Bajaj Auto, may fine-tune the engine to align with the Thruxton’s sportier character. The powertrain will likely be paired with a 6-speed gearbox equipped with a slip and assist clutch.
Built upon the tubular steel frame of the Speed 400, the Thruxton presumably also has a bolt-on rear subframe. Similarly, the suspension system comprises inverted front forks and a rear monoshock. Handling braking duties are single disc brakes at both ends, complemented by dual-channel ABS. The motorcycle will ride on 17-inch alloy wheels, potentially fitted with Pirelli Rosso tires internationally. However, the Indian market may utilize locally sourced tires from brands like MRF or Apollo.
In terms of features, the Thruxton 400 is likely to inherit several modern technologies from its 400cc siblings. Features include an analogue-digital instrument console, LED lighting throughout, and traction control.
Pricing and Availablity
Like other Triumph models, the Thruxton 400 will be manufactured by Bajaj Auto at its Chakan facility in Maharashtra. This collaboration ought to help maintain competitive pricing in the Indian market. Currently, the Speed 400 price comes in at ₹2.40 lakh, and the Scrambler 400X at ₹2.65 lakh. Positioned as the flagship model, the Thruxton 400 is anticipated to carry a price tag of approximately ₹2.80 lakh.
